Treasure Valley Celtic Festival and Highland Games

The Treasure Valley Celtic Festival and Highland Games will be in Boise, Idaho on Saturday, September 18. They're at the Idaho Botanical Gardens.

I don't have a lot of info for the event, but I know the Wicked Tinkers will be performing. Also, there's the main attraction of meeting Rufus and his buddy Johnny Starbucks in all of their kilted glory! I'll post again when the people in charge finally email me a schedule of events.

So, I hope to meet some kilted gents in the Boise area (especially Elijah, so you better be there!)

Dave, I'll do my best to get some pics. I might even try to get some video if I can.

Here's some more information about the Celtic Festival...

7th Annual Treasure Valley Celtic Festival

The Scottish American Society of Idaho will be sponsoring the 7th Annual Treasure Valley Celtic Festival & Highland Games on September 18, 2004 at the Idaho Botanical Garden, Old Penitentiary Road, from 9am to 6pm. This fun filled all day family event celebrates our Scottish, Irish and Welsh heritage with live Celtic music, Scottish country and highland dance, competitions , traditional foods and wares. Live music will be played throughout the day featuring the high energy band, The Wicked Tinkers, playing bagpipes, drums, digeridoo, and bronze age Irish horn. Also performing are our own Boise Highlanders Pipes & Drums, MacKinnon’s Brew, Sleekit Beasties Pipe Band, Celtic Fire, Na Buille, fiddler, Krsita Walker, as well as performances by the Thistle & Ghilles Scottish Country Dancers and Irish dancers. The Scottish Heavy Athletics (amateur) competitions will be held during the festival. These competitions are sanctioned and run by rules set forth by the Rocky Mountain Athletics Association (RSMA). The games include the Caber Toss, the Sheaf Toss, the Hammer Toss, the Braemar Stone Throw as well as others. Medals are offered for each event in each division and participating athletes are eligible to set local, national, or international records if their performance merits it. Other activities and performances include a bagpipe competition, Highland dance competition, women’s & children’s field events (frying pan toss, wee caber toss, etc.) “Bonnie Knees” competition and a British classic car show. The Scottish-American Society of Idaho (SAS) is a non-profit student and community volunteer staffed cultural group based in the Treasure Valley. The SAS is dedicated to sharing the rich culture and history of Scotland and other Celtic nations (Ireland, Wales). This is done through events that focus on community involvement and participation. The SAS sponsors activities year round including the Treasure Valley Celtic Festival & Highland Games that showcase Scottish & Celtic music, language, foods, traditional dress, genealogy, history and other cultural aspects. Tickets are $10 adult, $5 for under 12 and seniors, free for kids under 5 and are available for purchase at Wee Bit O Scotland 4501 W. Emerald, Boise (208)331-5675
