Experience with House of Tartan
Hello All,
I'm preparing to have a kilt made and came across this http://houseoftartan.co.uk/scottish/...13&catid=12200
The price is so good that I'm very suspicious. Does anyone have experience with this company? Is it truly 16oz 100% wool at 46 USD per 54" wide yard?!

Hi Jon!
I've approved your post, but may I have your permission to move it to "General Kilt Talk"? This subforum is usually used for discussion of tartan specifics, setts, weaves, identification, etc. and I think you'd get a lot more "traffic" in the other forum and more answers.

They are local to me and an member of the Scottish Tartans Authority. Reliable, fast and do what they say. Can't go wrong.

Keep in mind that the exchange rate is very good right now so British goods cost fewer US $.

I ordered a kilt from House of Tartan last fall in the tartan you're describing, Highland Mist (beautiful tartan), 8 yards wool, for < $100. The delivery was incredibly fast and they're very responsive to customer issues/questions.
The material is a little rougher that other worsted wool I've seen for kilts, although this is a complaint as a kilt owner, as no one seems to know the difference The poster OCRichard also had a similar observation about one of his orders from them. The second issue is the size was a full two inches larger than what I ordered.
I still consider it an excellent price and quality for what I paid.

Unfortunately, I don't know where it's woven. It is a very striking tartan pattern and my wife's favorite among my kilts, so that's about all the test I needed
