I would like to build a great kilt.

I would like to buy 9 yards of material without needing to sell the house any ideas.

I highly doubt you need 9 yards of tartan of period single width tartan.

Modern Double width tartan will give you a great kilt for most folks with 3 yards.

Now if things like the selvage weave are important to you, you will probably have to get a custom run, and get a minimum of 10 yards woven.

The Stewart Hunting Tartan is readily available from most weavers.

The weathered colorway is a term most commonly associated with the weaving company Lochcarron. The Lochcarron weathered Tartans are usually only available in 16oz per linear yard, double-width.

I would check with your local kiltmaker and ask what they would charge per yard.

    I wear the kilt because:

Which weight and tartan are preferred? I know where there is some light weight and heavy weight in two different tartans. PM if you wish
