San Antonio Highland Games
It's almost time for the San Antonio Highland Games & Celtic Music Festival, which will take place April 7 & 8 at the Helotes Festival Grounds, northwest of San Antonio.
Who'll be there?
I received an email this afternoon telling me about the Tartan Day celebration that will be taking place on Friday, April 6. Apparently, there's going to be a river parade at 3 p.m., followed by a reception at Mad Dogs Pub on the Riverwalk, then a commemorative ceremony in front of the Alamo chapel at 6:30 p.m. which will feature a speaker and the laying of wreaths/bouquets to honor the Alamo defenders (the vast majority of whom were of Scots and Scots/Irish descent).
If you're interested in participating in the parade, contact Jon at jongerisimms@gmail.com, as reservations are required for the parade barges.
There will also be a Contra Dance at Our Lady of the Lake University on Friday night with music by Waverly Station.
Hope to see a good turnout from the Texas rabble at the games.

Well have fun Shaun, I hope to be in Albuquerque NM for the American Defenders of Bataan & Corregidor Memorial Society. I am looking for anyone left that may have known my dad.

Shawn;
We will be there for the first time since Doug was the convener. Hope the weather is good for it this year. If it rains out, I'll be unlikely to get Kathie to agree again.

BD:
Just checked the forecast and it looks like there may be a thunderstorm Friday morning. High of 83 on Friday, but only 62 for the high on Saturday (partly cloudy)! Then back to mid-80s on Sunday.
Break out the tweed for Saturday! HA!
Looking forward to seeing you there.

I won't be there this year, but are the games always this weekend? My Son-in-Law will be posted in San Antonio later this Spring and I expect my wife and I will be visiting several times a year, so maybe next year we can plan on being there for the games.

Yes, this event is usually the weekend closest to Tartan Day (April 6).
Hope to see you there next year.

Here's the group photo from the event...

Saturday was mostly gray, chilly and extremely windy, but the sun was out on Sunday (when this photo was taken!) and the weather was nice, if a little warm!
