Hamilton Grey

I've had a customer inquire about having a kilt made in Hamilton Grey tartan. I have only managed to find this on the Heritage of Scotland website. I have sort of come to the conclusion that it is woven for/by them. Is this the case? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

A word of caution, two on fact:

Both the designs here are called Hamilton Grey on different sites. Neither is recognised by the chief and should only be referred to as fashion tartans.

That said, if the customer likes one or other, why not. I have no information to indicate that either are restricted and so theoretically either could be woven to order.

Many thanks for confirming the conclusions I had come to. As it happens, the customer decided to go with a MacGregor tartan. I'm not sure why he didn't go with that in the first place since his name is Gregg.

Indeed. The Hamilton Grey tartans as marketed by Heritage of Scotland and their associated Scotland Kilt Company are two fashion checks, named Hamilton because their distributor in the south of Scotland is/was a company by the name of Hamilton. No connection whatsoever with Clan Hamilton.

I would have assumed Hamilton Grey would be akin to Grey Douglas and Grey Stewart and the other grey-toned versions of ordinary tartans.
