    Thank you, Peter, for another excellent research article. I find these plaids with the total border pattern to be fascinating. I imagine they must have been quite expensive, not only due to the amound of red involved, but also because of the amount of skill needed to weave them. I hope more of them are discovered and analyzed.

    The sophistication of this early plaid brings to mind a similar thing seen with bagpipes- older sets of pipes have obscure details, the purpose of which is not known, and which have not been continued by modern makers.
