    Old Single Belt Kilt

Hoping someone with some historical knowledge can advise how old this kilt might be. I'll post a picture when I get the chance.

It's in Gordon Ancient and only has one long belt attached to the edge of the inner apron, which passes through a slit on the left, passes round the back on the outside and fastens to a buckle on the right side. It has a 2" rise, a fringed apron and the (silk) lining isn't military in style so I guess this wasn't a military kilt. It has a whopping 38 pleats, pleated to the sett, albeit quite shallow pleats.

The wool is heavyweight but pretty rough and hard. Nothing on the kilt has been machine stitched, completely hand stitched - any guesses as to how old this might be? Thanks

This type of fastening was popular in the early-mid 20th century. If Old Colours then I guess c1930-50 but a photo would help.

Thank you - here are two pictures - sorry about the bad light - the colours are much more muted in reality

This kilt came into my shop a few years ago for some repairs. The owner said his father had purchased it in the late 1950's - early 1960's.

    I wear the kilt because:

Thanks - the main belt on this is the same idea, although mine doesn't have the second belt, interesting to know it's age though. I'm guessing mine is 1950s latest - any other views welcome. Having looked up Gordon Old Colours, I think it is that.
