    Choice of Three Sporrans

I find myself in need of a brown leather sporran for daywear / festival wear when brown / brass / burgundy is the required color scheme.

I have three choices that are realistic and within my budget:

#1 This handmade item from Kansas City, USA: (link removed, original was at Etsy store)

#2 This Scottish sporran from J. Higgins:

#3 This (likely Pakistani) sporran from J. Higgins:

What gets me the best bang for my buck here? I don't intend to wear this for rough use (I'm getting a simpler pouch style from a vendor at a Renaissance Faire for that purpose) but I would like to wear it for normal day-to-day use, replacing the simple black day sporran I have.

I have one like #2. I bought it in 2006 while in Scotland on R&R from Afghanistan. That would be my choice.

I would go for number 2. It looks more traditional than the others, that 3rd choice looks like a childs sporran to me.

I vote for #2 as well. #1 seems a bit too "steampunk" with a combination lock and miniature door knocker, and #3 seems unfinished with only 2 tassels and rough cut edges to the flap.

out of the three choices, #2 as well.
#1 has too much of a renfair merchant vibe for me. I've never cared for the lion head drawer pulls on anything except for drawers. Also I've seen that same "tumbler" latch on faaaaar too many belt pouches and things over the years. But that's just my aesthetic opinion and we all now about opinions...

#3 doesn't look bad, but isn't going to hold up if it's actually worn. The edges aren't skived (rounded over) so they'll curl and possible split in no time and the side pieces are of pretty poor quality; you can see the finish peeling off on the right hand side already. I'm not convinced the sides are actually leather for that matter. If you go for this option you can find the same item on Amazon for 15 bucks.

anyone know what the deal is with the two extra holes center front on #2?

To me, it looks like a slit for the centre tassel to be moved down into. (?)

Of the three, I'd pick no. 2 as well. But at that price point, I'd be watching the used market.

I like 2 the most but have no objections to three. In fact I considered buying that same sporran in the past. For what it’s worth, I emailed jhiggins and they said it was made in Canada.

#2 is my choice too. I have a similar one myself.

I'll second the vote for the second 😁sporran. Definitely will get the most mileage. #1 is just too specialized for wearing for most times and events. The last one just seems awkward and unbalanced to me. Its lacking at least a third tassel to look right.

Of the three shown I too would go got #2, however, my actual preference for a plain but good quality day wear sporran would be one of these which show up frequently on Ebay in both new and used condition:
