I'm sure the material is not a 16 ounce wool, so it's pretty simple to do. It would be nice to see how it's handled out there in the general public, and not by a kiltmaker.
I got my kilt back from being altered. I didn't asked, but I am sure that option #2 in Jimmy's message is what they did. I had it shorted by 3" and the folded material in the hem is 1.5". So they had to cut 1.5" off before hemming.
I will be wearing this kilt (Stillwater Black Watch) to a party next week (10/23). I will let you know how it wears and the pleats hold up after the party.
