Kathy's Kilts...
A fellow poster on a Scottish listserv I belong to sent me a message yesterday about his new kilt, which is from Kathy Lare in New Mexico. Ms. Lare is a certified Scottish kilt maker from the Keith Kilt School in Moray, as well as a member of the Scottish Tartans Authority.
At first glance, her prices seem very reasonable and the connection to the Keith school is a big seller with me -- my friend, who is orginially from Scotland, says that his hand-sewn tank is the best he has owned.

Hmm...may have to think about this...
Cheers,

Looks interesting. I wonder if she buys the tartan on an "as needed" basis, since she does not mention what tartans are available.
Might have to bookmark this one for future reference.

I believe so. My friend had an obscure tartan (MacGregor of Deeside), and she was able to get a weaver she knew to produce enough to make his kilt.

I've invited Kathy to take a look at XMarks and come in and meet everyone.
It would certainly be nice to have her expert opinions, experience and training here!!!!!!!
Keep you fingers crossed (and legs too if you're wearing a kilt).

Wow, her prices are really good. They're really comparable with just about anywhere in Scotland I've seen, and us Americans wouldn't have to pay customs taxes.
Maybe we could send Rob Wright over there to check her stuff out. Isn't he in that neck of the woods?

I get down to Albuquerque several times a year (it is about a six hour drive), next time I go down just may have to give her a call. Those are nice looking kilts for a decent price.
Hope that she posts here, I would really like to get her input.

Rufus, Albuquerque is a 4.5 hour drive north from where I am ,and I don't get up into that part of the state much, but having someone close by is a real plus and I just may have to plan a trip.

I emailed her too, to encourage her to join the board.
Its also nice for me to have someone like her so close. Emailed her to try to get some clarification on getting a Macdonald Lord of the Isles tartan kilt. No response yet, but it is the weekend.
Notice she has some sporran straps for sale too...gives three different size, but not the length. May be just the thing to go with my Freelander sporrans when they arrive.
Hoping she answers email.

Oops! Sorry Rob, I didn't realize you were so far away from Albuquerque. We'll make Glen go visit her instead.
If you do go for a visit, let us know what you think.
