Creative Kilt Making

A while ago Katie posted to the UK board about adding decorations to our non-traditional kilts to personalize them...that got me to thinking and resulted in the order I placed with Jeff at Pittsburgh Kilts this morning.

With his excellent planning help and fabric finding resources we've come up with an "Arizona state flag" kilt. Sorry, don't have the techie skills to post a pic of our state flag here, but simply, the bottom half is royal blue and the top half is alternating red and yellow rays coming out from a copper star in the center.

Using his two tone Steeler model kilt the body will be blue for the bottom of the flag, then the inside color of the pleats will alternate red and yellow for the rays of the sun on the flag. We're dropping the copper star part, don't really need it.

Jeff came up with the idea of doing a two tone "sporran." So he's gonna make the center of the "sporran" yellow. Will give it a sort of cavalry look.

I'm gonna round up an Arizona State Flag embroidered patch or two to add to kind of suggest what the look of the kilt is, and probably will put a cavalry crossed sabers emblem on the flap of the "sporran."

Lots of fun working with Jeff to make this a reality.

I'm looking forward to wearing it in our small town parades next year...particularly 4th of July and Veteran's Day.

I have a couple 1870-80 vintage replica cavalry shirts and cavalry hats to wear with it...even the replica cavalry knee boots.

Now just have to start a rumor that there was a kilted cavalry outfit in Arizona...hell, they did camels for real out here back then...why not kilts too!!??

Even though I'm not much on "themed" kilts per se, this one intrigues me, since I am the son of a genuine "cactus kicker", born and raised in "Preskitt" -- I've always thought the AZ state flag was one of the best looking and unique state flags.

Thanks for that offer. Let me know what they cost. Hoping you have a PK "sporran" to see the flap size, think the standard cap size would fit the "sporran" flap.

Was gonna go to Grand Illusions, then realized they retired.

I'm very optimistic about this kilt...real impressed with Jeff's work.
