Kilted at a Wind Farm
Here are a few piccies of the day, I thought it would be fun to visit a wind farm - with the fetish some people have about wind and what's under the kilt
I got a few smiles and comments and had a lot of fun.
I wore a USAK poly vis 8 yard and I can say it stood up well to the very windy conditions. I was not embarrased at all!
Yes I know, my cap is missing, there is no way I could keep it on my poor head!

PS, this farm is the largest in the Southern Hemisphere, there are 37 working turbines each stands 90m (about 270') to the top of the blade.
They contribute significantly to the State's power grid and reduce the need to draw water from the States water storage dams for the main hydro power scheme.
I'm glad to say that our State doesn't have to rely on coal or nuclear for generating electricity.

Graham,
I see that they farm wind in Tasmania like they do here in Colorado, what a great crop it is
Great pictures, and yet another reason for the sporran!

You lot are such clowns!!
David you are spot on, the are a joint effort with Vestas and the Tasmanian Power company Hydro Tasmania.
So yes, they are Danish technology. Quite appropriate really when one considers the dominance the Nordic people had over wind power as they sailed to my country to plunder it.
Don't worry, I forgive them.

More splendid photos, Graham. Glad to see someone else who is not afraid of getting the wind up!!
However, do you not think it is a terrible blot on the beautiful natural landscape you have 'down there' to have man-made eyesores like that? Here in the UK, and especially up in Scotland, there are public protests currently being held against the building of wind farms like yours. Just imagine those things scattered across the Scottish Highlands and around the coasts of England!! There is already one installation (maybe 15 masts) to the south of Edinburgh - it's just dreadful.
