Clearing Out - What are they?

Clearing out stuff that has been in the closet... decades. I picked this up probably in the early 1980's. I never knew what they were intended for. If anyone recognizes them I'd appreciate letting me know.

If anyone is interested in one or all of these, they are yours for the shipping cost. Otherwise they will probably be trashed.

That was always my suspicion, but is that really what they are/were?

I’m afraid I don’t actually know. I can’t find a good reference for British Scout uniforms online.

It would probably be pretty easy to email them to find out for sure.

Having been in both the Cubs and the Scouts during a period which straddled the old and the new uniforms, I'd be very surprised if these badges had anything to do with the Scouts. I'm less familiar with Sea Scout badges but I'd be surprised if there were ever Sea Scouts in Hamilton. Having served in the RN I'm also pretty sure these are not Naval or Sea Cadet uniform badges - although they are plainly for sewing to onto a black or navy-blue uniform. There were lots of black uniforms when I was young beyond the obvious police and naval candidates - ambulance crew, firemen, first-aiders at sports events, school janitors and even commissionaires. However, the civil-defense suggestion seems quite likely because these badges have a military/naval/government service look about them.

I might be interested. It would be a shame to trash them.

Looks like these are all pre-1975 Scottish local government areas. This would match the civil defence idea as I think they were organised on a County and Large Burgh basis in Scotland.

Being bottom rockers they probably go with a standard emblem above them...Sea Cadet logo would make sense.

I did a bit of looking around on the interwebs based on figheadair's suggestion. It looks like these were for Cold War Civil Defence uniforms. These had the Civil Defence cloth badge on a breast pocket with the county below. I'm attaching an example link.

If anyone would like one due to sentimental attachment to the location, just let me know. Otherwise the whole thing (or whatever is left) goes off to kilted2000.
