A rather presumptuous store clerk.....
Yesterday, I was in a clothing store with my wife. (We were both wearing pants at the time.) After picking out a sweater I'd been looking for, we found a cute corduroy skirt that fit my wife perfectly. She was reluctant to spend the money, so I offered to purchase it for her. While my wife was looking at one of the displays, I went to the sales counter to pay. I laid the merchandise on the counter and reached for my wallet. The sales clerk took one look at me and then at the skirt and remarked with a slightly sarcastic tone, "I'm sure you'll look cute in the skirt!".
"Sorry to disappoint you", I replied with a grin. "I don't think it would fit me... it's for my wife".
"Shall I gift wrap it then?", she asked.
"Not necessary... it's no surprise... she's standing right over there".
By this time she realized that the purchase was legit and looked slightly embarrassed.
Don't feel bad", I added,"I have been known to wear a kilt on occasion".
She smiled slightly rolled her eyes and shook her head. I chuckled to myself as I we left the store. It would have been much more fun if I'd worn a kilt. I might just do that this weekend just to 'give her the gears'.

Blu,
I wouldn't put it past you. Put some joy in her life!

Maybe she was flirting with you?
A few weeks ago while at the mall, I decided to get a few things for my wife in the lady's department of one of the stores. It didn't take me long to realize that I looked somewhat suspect browsing through the blouses and such while wearing my black wool 21st Century Kilt casual. Years ago, that would probably have mortified me, but at the time it just sort of amused me. I am sure it amused others as well.

Even if it had been for you the purchase was 'legit'. Smart remarks from sales help are never acceptable.

Possible I suppose... although I didn't get that impression. The conversation, albeit brief, was generally pleasant.

I too was amused by this incident. Someone else might not have been.

The FIRST thing that I thought of to say was:
"SHOOT. I must have left those pumps in the cart!"
I have no shame or embarassment. With this face... that's doing something!

I agree. Her comments clearly reveal a "do first, think later" mentality. I wonder how long she'll be working there? :o
