Do Ghillie Brogues Exist in Wide Sizes?
Silly me, expecting that folks making footwear for Scots would offer it in sizes wide enough for a Scot's foot.
I need a 4E minimum...seems what they call "wide" now is a D. Striking out on Google. If I'm missing someone please let me know.
Guess barefoot is probably more traditional anyway...

Just saw this...
...and wondered if you'd ever tracked anything down. I also have w-i-d-e dogs. From what I've seen in web-browsing, pipers with our problem recommend getting a pair of comfy Rockports/shoe of choice (oxford/brogue/wingtip), finding a good ghillie brogue photo, and then visiting a good shoe repairman to get him to alter the shoes to match the photo.
I found the idea too late to try it for my buddy's wedding -- wingtips were fine -- but I'm intrigued by the idea and will probably pursue.

No Joy
Have looked at a bunch of games...and on line...so far no joy. All narrow.
Best bet so far has been buying replacement laces (www.kathyskilts has them) and putting them through wingtips and on up the leg.
Gota feeling that would look weirder than just plain wingtips.
Still baffled, thought all Scotsmen and descendents had wide feet to keep from sinking into the moors and bogs....

I wear a size EEEE and on some days, my foot is even wider due to rhuematiod making the joints near my toes swell a bit.
I too, would be quite interested in finding some brogues in that width. Also, I need crazy good arch support. You can roll a baseball under my foot.
Which is why I wear Birkenstocks. They offer an obcenely wide size that fits 4E to 6E, which is what I wear.
Oh, and Ron, that size D on wide is a skinny size D.
Oh... Forgot to mention. The guy that runs the Barefoot Comfort Shoe Store where I bought my birkies told me that a European 4E is more like an American 5E. Perhaps... We should look for brogues from Europe?

Eeee
Thanks Dred,
I'm an American 4E too. Some shoe sales folks act like D is a wide shoe...nooo it ain't.
Guess we'll keep looking. Maybe we can get New Balance to do a Ghillie

Discrimation of wide-footed Scots...
Dred - the more I encounter your posts, the more convinced I am that we're related somehow. Either that or we're doubles. Wide feet and high arches? Too familiar, dude.
Aside from my belly the biggest challenge I have is finding interesting wide footwear. Thank God for New Balance and other enlightened manufacturers. The folks with whom I've chatted at Piper's Cove and another gal with a highland wear shop north of me had the same response: forget about finding off-the-rack ghillie brogues (UK-made or otherwise) -- nobody makes them in our widths.
Which I find really discriminatory...
Guess I need to see if the shoe-alteration path is valid.

I'm a 4E, too, and I'm thinking Rockports or sandals will have to do if no Ghillies are to be found.

I made a post in the off topic section with your pic, Rob's pic, and my pic. We all look remarkably similar in various various ways. You should take a look.
