free kilt sock pattern
http://www.knitting-and.com/knitting...n-anderson.htm
Hi all,
Has anyone else tried this kilt hose pattern? My mother tried (and she is an accomplished knitter) and failed, the woman from the wool shop tried, failed, finally a third (professional sock-knitter) succeeded but admitted that it was the most complicated sock pattern she'd ever tried.
But...
They did work, and the result is amazing.
My mum chose the wool (NZ merino, nylon, alpaca and possum mix!), which is in itself just beautiful, and the pattern means no horrible, irritating thick seam in the toe, and fully incorporated extra reinforcement in the heel!
All up, nearly 300 (NZD) worth of socks!.. but they are just beautiful, one of the best (slightly late) christmas presents ever!
some pics of how they looked on the day (little sister's wedding last month), and some sort of close-ups. The "fluffiness" of the wool means you lose some detail when they aren't being worn, but you can still see the amazing patterns.
So proud, I just wanted to show them off!
Michael

and one of the couple, because they were so gorgeous!

Yes it would be good to see them clearly. Is the centre back seamed or are they on a four needle or circular needle system?

The whole attire looks good, not only the socks.
I like the breeze between my knees

I used the braid from this pattern on a pair of hose I did, but didn't follow the pattern other than that.

John Anderson - which version?
Was the pattern used the toe-up? or the more recently posted top-down pattern? Just out of curiosity.
I haven't knit either, but just reading the toe-up was daunting to me. The top-down looks much more straight-forward.
They are a beautiful hose, and you are one lucky Scot!

You will find a lengthy thread on Ravelry
These hose have been discussed a bit by the knitters on the net.

Honestly, I have no idea about toes up or down, but it sounds familiar that my mum said something about it being a toe-up sock. I guess you understand- I'm afraid I'm not a knitter- just an appreciater of knitted things
Cheers,
Michael

I have made several pair. They are a 4 or 5 needle, withan increasing op of the back pattern to accomodate the leg. It is a great pattern, and readily available on the internet for FREE. An advantage of toe up, is you really get a good honest measurement of the leg before you get to the top turn-over.

Just because you are paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you.
