McRok Jacket Review

So as my birthday drew closer I had hinted to my folks I could really use a kilt jacket. I pointed them towards McRok.com for an argyle jacket as I had emailed the website inquiring about the jackets and read reviews of some of the other items they offer. In my email I asked about the fabric and where the jacket was made. All they said was the jacket was infact wool and "not made in Scotland."


I was gifted by my parents a thistle belt buckle and "jacobite shirt" both of which my parents said they bought from McRok. The buckle is fairly cheap but not bad. The shirt is very costumie but I do enjoy its comfort and I will wear it to family events such as BBQ's but most likely that will be it.

The jacket my family suprised me with this week. As it turns out McRok was out of my size and had to back order it. Now to the real meat of the post. McRok was upfront about any and all delays, they didn't lie or misrepresent the product so as a company I will say they get the nod from me. Compairing this jacket to other suitcoats in my closet the quality is equal to possibly better. Fit is splended. I will take the jacket to a tailor to get it properly fitted to my body, but for off the rack it fits better then expected.

I find no loose threads or blemishes in the fabric, the buttons seem rather cheap but not expected with the price point of the coat. I intend on getting new buttons for this jacket at some point. Inside the jacket is fully lined and has a label that looks very much like that of a Gold Brothers kilt. (Will snap a pic when I have the chance) At this point I have to admit my ignorance in fabrics and I can't truely tell 100% that this is wool. It may in fact be PV as the weave is tighter then my SWK heavy and closer to my Gold Brothers work kilt.

They said it was wool, I can't tell and I'm not sure how much difference it will really make. My mother (former dressmaker) and my sister (seamstress) didn't seem to question what the fabric was so I'm inclined to believe its wool. sorry for the rambling but I want to be very clear in any review of a product or company. As a matter of point the only reason I question the fabric is the Gold Brother like label.

McRok.com worth a look its a solid quality for the money I'm sure its all made in Pakistan but for those who are working on a tight budget this is a good option. I will have this jacket fitted and for a little more then renting a jacket I will look the part for the next Burns night.

If there's any extra fabric that can be snipped off without making any difference to the garment (like at the inside seams), take the sample and soak it in bleach overnight. If it dissolves, it's wool.

Or burn it. If it melts, it ain't wool. If it burns up quickly, it ain't wool. If you have to try pretty hard to get it to burn, it's wool.
