My son Josiah received his first Holy Communion on Sunday, May 1. He had asked that I make him a new kilt for the occasion, in the St. Ninian tartan (in his words, the tartan I "designed for the Pope would be very appropriate"). Unfortunately, his faith formation (CCD) class teacher required all the boys to be in matching white suits for their first Communion.

So Josiah decided to wear his new kilt the Sunday before, for Easter, instead. Not to be outdone, his brothers all decided to wear kilts, as well.

Here are all of my kids, lined up on the lawn Easter morning.

Here are a couple just of Josiah.

And teaching him how to pose to show off the pleats!

I was in trousers, myself, but I decided to wear a waistcoat to match Josiah's kilt.

The kids got lots of compliments at Mass that Sunday and had a grand time. Though it really is next to impossible to teach a four year old how to sit properly in a kilt!
