Tucking your shirt in when going casual.
As I browse around this site, I've noticed that almost unfailingly, every picture around here seems to feature the shirt tucked in under the kilt. Now, when I wear mine with a polo, or are trying to look nice, I'll do this, but 90% of the time I'm wearing a plain black t-shirt and not tucking it in at all.
I can't really tuck it in when I'm in the ring (for those of you that didn't read my introduction thread, I'm a professional wrestler and I wear a sportkilt in the ring), but outside of the ring it never occurred to me that a T-shirt would require a tuck.
I know the kilt is clothes, not costume, but do I look like an idiot not tucking? Am I breaking some unwritten rule? Or do you just like to show off as much of the garment as possible?

The only wrestler I know who wears the kilt is Roddy Piper. Now I know two
To answer your question, I think it's fair to say it's personal preference. I tuck my shirt in when wearing a polo shirt but don't tuck when wearing a t-shirt. Then again, there are no rules.

Obviously it's a matter of taste, and no rules, yadda yadda yadda.
I think it usually looks better to have the shirt tucked in, even more so than with pants because it alters the proportions, and because I don't like the look of two pieces of clothing hanging off the body, particularly with one partially covering the other.
It's also going to be easier to get away with it if you wear a kilt at the hips, rather than the waist, and probably more with a contemporary than a traditional tartan kilt.
But overall its not that big of a deal.
I always put my kilt on over my shirt, so it never even occurs to me that I could untuck it, unless its oppressively hot. And I wear a kilt belt, with a buckle that sticks out a bit, so it looks pretty funny under a shirt.

Don't forget the owner of the kilted nation, who used to wrestle under the name Snatch Haggis.

Well, there's been a few who've worn the kilt before. Obviously the most famous is Piper, and I'm still a big fan of Roddy Piper the wrestler, but Roderick Toombs the man leaves a lot to be desired I'm afraid. Long story, I might tell it some time.

And Rowdy Roddy Piper didn't actually wear it IN the ring, just on his way to and fro. I've also seen some postings about a tag team duo "The Highlanders" I believe they're called. (I haven't watched or followed any wrestling since I was a little boy.)
To answer your question, it's certainly a personal preference. I myself always tuck my shirt in, even if it's a t-shirt.

Pretty much tuck my t-shirts in, for the reasons given above...even with my beer belly. Still looks better than out to me.
Wear my aloha shirts out though. Here's a pic of the t-shirt tucked in with the aloha shirt out.

I still believe there's a niche market for aloha shirts cut like Scottish kilt jackets...

Yeah, the Highlanders wore their kilts in-ring. Unfortunately neither is still employed by WWE. Funny story about them though- my friend, who has been in WWE's (then) training school OVW for several years, was nearly asked to BE one of the Highlanders. He was passed on for a more experienced wrestler whose "accent" was a bit more over the top.

But a gimmack is alot easer to sell if you are comfortable in it and it is an extention of your real self.
With all that said I say do what is comfortable and what is easiest for you to sell. It may be to that the untucked shirt may make some spots easier.
That's my humble opinion.

P.S. When I was trying to come up with a gimmack I thought of a Scottish angle but the kilt was to expensive. Wish now I would have known about some of the inexpensive models available.
That's the second worker I've met here, that's fantastic. Where and how long were you in the business? I'm green as grass, I'm wrestling my fourth match later tonight. So, any time you feel like laying down some advice or wisdom, I'm always glad to listen to someone who knows more than I do.
As far as being in the ring goes, I wear a t-shirt now because my body isn't great. I'm never going to be ripped, but I need to tan and tone a bit before I can pull off wearing a singlet and a kilt. And yeah, leaving my shirt untucked gives me considerably more mobility in the ring, and keeps me from getting too warm- because as of now I'm wrestling in a wool one. My first Sportkilt is on its way right now, though, I'm hoping it works considerably better in the ring. It should also be better than wool for rolling around in blood, sweat, snot, and spit, too.

I wrestled in the Western Kentucky, West Tenneessee and Southern Illinois area for 2 years, before a trip to the emergency room ended all that. I made 10 dollars for 2 matches on the card and give the local ER 800.00 thats with insurance. My "love" for the bussiness died right there, no doctor could save it!

Cass, I always tuck mine with a tee because I don't want the shirt just hangin' there over the sporran and all. I like it tucked in. But, like it's been said...all personal preference.

I usually tuck it in, but a few weekends ago when I went out it got so hot I had to untuck the shirt just to feel slightly cooler. I guess it depends on the weather for me.
