Told my wife I need another tartan!

Hehe, while digging through my closet and looking at shirts that I thought would go well with my MacPherson red and failing miserably, I told my wife I needed to get another tartan so I don't have to replace half my wardrobe. So today we went out to have breakfast at IHOP and do a little shopping for some shirts. Of course I went kilted to help pick something out! Found a few shirts that may work, but will have to wait for payday and picked up a white short sleeve button up shirt and a black polo for $18 for both (gotta love clearance sections!). This is such a complicated tartan that I am having problems figuring out good colors to go with it. Or am I missing a point here and just need to worry about matching the hose with the shirt? Some of the casual pictures leave me guessing.

Hamish has recommended wearing the same color shirt and hose (or jacket and hose) to provide a more balanced overall look. I agree with him.

I also agree with Hamish's recommendations. A tan safari shirt with a green wooly pully sweater gives a nice look as well.

I have found Cabela's outfitters to be a good source of shirts and boots.

Looking at the MacPherson Modern Red tartan it should go with just about any color you could choose. I easily see wearing - red, blue, yellow, cream, white, black... and maybe green. Any of these in a solid button-down or nice cotton shirt would look great.
