    Need quick advice re hose

My son and I are piping for 30 minutes during registration/check-in at a charity golf tournament tomorrow morning. We're going to dress more casually than we might usually: black polos instead of dress shirts/waistcoats/ties. It's supposed to be like 83 and humid as all get out even at 6:30 a.m. Welcome to summertime in Kansas. We play from 7:30 till 8.

OK, so I'm wearing a black polo, and I'm leaning toward my Pride of Scotland kilt. Since it's a casual gig, I'm not planning on wearing my white piper hose.

My question is, since my shirt is black, do I need to wear black hose, or would my purple hose be okay since there's so much purple in the tartan?

    Thanks for the help!

Last piping I did I wore charcoal gray hose with my avatar tartan, red flashes to match the red stripe. I believe at least a few will tell you they feel white hose are not needed; other colors are ok too.

Very few people, if any at the event, are going to have a clue about Highland Attire, or its casual cousin. The Purple Hose are fine. You do not need to fret all this colour stuff most of the time. The only time it is important is when playing in a band or other situation where it is a uniform. The rest of the time is yours and your son's choices. Where the two of you are playing together, it would be good appearance to dress in your own "uniform".

I went with the purple. As expected, the junior fuzz wore his white piper's hose. We had a great time and were treated very kindly. Played okay -- not great -- but everyone there thought we were freaking Jori Chisholm. It was nice.
