    More jacket conversion details

I converted this Goodwill-store jacket a couple of years ago and am not thrilled with the results. However, it has a few details (esp. top-stitching) that have been discussed in another thread, so I thought I would share the visuals and explanation.

Front view. Awkward button spacing and too-abrupt sporran cutaway are just two of the things I don't like about this jacket.

Jacket lapels and front edge were originally top-stitched, so I continued that treatment along the new front edges. Here is detail of how the machine top-stitching ends at the edge of the front facings.

I can't remember if the jacket originally had center or side rear vents, but I created new side vents by opening up the rear side seams. There is a short horizontal line of very tight zig-zag stitching at the top of the opening, for reinforcement.

Inside the vents, I used some of the cut-off material and lining to create new inner facings. One challenge is where to tack the upper edge of facing so it doesn't droop below the hemline. These are tacked to the main jacket lining which has worked OK.

    Hope this helps!

Nice, I am currently going through this process. It came out looking good to my eye, but I am sure to most of you all it will look like CRRRRRRRAAAAP!!! lol but that's to be expected. I mostly just wanted to try my hand at it, altogether I spent 10$ lol
