Kilt pin placement
I've been searching old threads, but not finding the answer quick enough. what is considered correct placement for the kilt pin? Somewhere I believe I read 2 inches in 4 inches up. Help please. And thanks in advance.

That's a good starting point, but if it's a tartan kilt I'd also look at where the pin best fits in the tartan scheme -- centered in a color block, aligned vertically between two stripes, etc. Get it in that vicinity then adjust so the pin looks its best against the colors of the tartan.

I prefer to wear it on the fold of the hem, for that added fabric to hold it. Maybe not traditional, but I feel it's safer that way.

Black Watch- without even thinking much about it I had put it on the line between the two green stripes seemed right in that spot.

Any where in that general area. But don't get hung up on tradition. If you have a pin that is rather long, try pinning it on an angle, wear two pins that are related at the same time. Be different as long as you are pleased with the look.

I guess go with your gut. I bought a dragon pin instead of the 'classic' style pins to use, and I think I saw a few pics of another person here with a round pin.

That rather depends upon where you'd like for it to rip a hole in your apron when it snags on something.

You could don your kilt first, then have someone you trust that has a good fashion sense "eyeball" it into place for best effect.
Kilts have a whole different look hanging from our waist than they do laying on the bed.
And, as mentioned...experiement with angles and additional pins...play, have fun, push the envelope.

I order large 'Celtic Brooches' on ebay, I only have one traditional style pin - gave the rest away in favor of the brooches. They are inexpensive; I have one for each kilt.

Like everyone else has said, put it where you think it looks best. Unless you're wearing the kilt as part of a regulation uniform, there are no exact rules for placement.
Of course, if you put the pin in the middle of the front apron, you might want to rethink your choice.
