Kilt Pin Placement
Hello all,
Just got my first kilt from Rocky (woohoo!!) And had a question about the placement of the Kilt Pin. The apron has a USA Kilts patch sewn on to the lower corner, about where I thought the kilt pin should go. I kind of like the patch on the kilt though. There's not a whole lot of color on the Clark tartan, and I think the bit of yellow and silver from the patch looks nice on it. The only problem is, the patch doesn't weigh enough to hold the apron down in a breeze.
Is it ok to wear the Kilt Pin in addition to the little patch on the apron? And if so, where should it be placed? Above the patch, to the side?
Pictures are in the thread in General Kilt Talk title "It's Here!!"
thanks for the advice,
Casey

Just my taste speaking here, but I personally do not like logos on clothing, period. I would carefully pick it off, and use the kilt pin. Later, if you want more colour, try a pin with a stone set in it, contrasting shirts and hose, flashes and the like. On the other hand, I tend to be more conservative than many. Congratulations, again!

I agree. Where that damn badge is, the pin should go, and no doubt you know, but just in case you don't, that the pin should only go through the apron and NOT pinned to the cloth below. You do not have to wear a kilt pin, so if you like the badge then leave well alone.

Everything said. I'd take the patch off. Congrates on your new kilt

If you like the badge, then keep it; it's your kilt. Perhaps you could brainstorm for ways to weigh down that area of the kilt; maybe you could sew in a small weight under the badge itself. I just think that a pin AND a badge would simply be too much.

If you decide to keep the badge, carefully cut the threads on the top, and insert something that weighs about 1/2 oz (like three quarters) behind it and sew it up. That will give you the weight. (Just don't use anything that could stain the fabric.)

It's your call, of course. As one who tends toward the kilt pin, I would discreetly lose the badge. But, again, that's my "take" on it.

Personally (and i don't yet speak from experience as I only have one USAK semi trad) I think the patches in the pictures look pretty good. As to the pin, I have seen them worn all over the edge of the apron, so I doubt anyone would notice if you simply wore the pin beside the patch, or above it, or diagonal to it. I personally have given some thought to the matter, as I plan to get a USAK casual or three or four, myself. So those are the solutions I have come up with- use the pin in conjunction with the patch!

While I like the patch, I really want to use the kilt pin I have. It's one with St. Andrew and his Cross. I think that it really makes a tie-in with the Clark name, and the origins of the family with it's association with the church.
I think I'm going to try and very carefully remove the patch, and save it, maybe place it on a polo or something, because I do like the patch, and that way I can wear the pin on the kilt, and the patch on a shirt.
Think I'll wait til tomorrow to try and remove the patch though, steadier hands and all that

I don't like logo's on clothing unless the product is high quality, then I don't mind advertising for the company. That said, I'd take the patch off and replace it with a kilt pin. Then, I'd sew the patch on a baseball cap or something because USAK kilts are high quality and deserve advertisement
