That's a very good move. As a grant writer you certainly have the savvy and skill to know what to do to make your case. Always use their language to make your case, whenever possible. Leave it to a grant writer!

My denial at work was stated as the concern with meeting with customers. I am in automotive supply and as the Design Manager do meet with customers several times a month. In addition there are unannounced times that I see customers when they are at the plant to meet with others.

Congratulations on your 'victory'. I thought your letter was very respectful sounding, and full of lots of good information about not just the kilt, but the role of Scots in your community. Good job, wear your kilt with pride.

    Teacher in a Kilt

I am a middle school teacher and both my principle and vice principle have been very accepting of my wearing my kilt. They both understood that it would be a distraction, but have both enthusiastically supported me wearing it. I find any excuse to wear it to school. Since Burns day is on a Sunday, I am wearing it on the Friday right before. It drives my students crazy to see me in a kilt. I LOVE IT!

In most cases, the other teachers and the students hardly ever see or never see a man in a kilt. Most of the students think it is gross and some of the other teachers ask if I use the women’s restroom, but most are quite accepting of it.

I work on servers for a fairly large computer company, when I started here a couple years back, I went in to HR the same week I started and asked if it would cause an issue if I wore my kilt. I was told "We cannot tell a woman that she cannot wear pants so we cannot tell you that you cannot wear a kilt." been wearing it ever since. Now people ask whats wrong when I show up in jeans.

I'm glad someone deals in common sense. I'm self-employed so don't have these problems, but some of the examples given almost make it sound as though you guys have to get permission to go to the toilet!

So do these HR departments prevent Muslim men from wearing the Boubou or Kaftan?

    Cheers, Graham.
