Kilt Hose for summer time

I am definitely going to go kilted to the Utah Highland Games this year. It will actually be the first year I am able to go. However, being one that gets warm very easily, I am worried about my kilt hose. If I was not to wear my kilt, I would wear a pair of shorts with some sandals. Since I am wearing my kilt, I feel that kilt hose are needed. I know some of you may not agree, but I would like to stick to that idea for this thread. I would like recommendations on kilt hose that are great for warm activities. Utah weather is quite unpredictable (example: last Friday it was close to 70 degrees. Today it is snowing.) I want to plan for the worst and assume it is going to be extremely hot. What would everyone recommend?

Sounds like NY weather to me. Two weeks ago it was 14 degrees. A week and a half ago it was almost 60. I think about the only thing you can do is go with the kilt hose.....if it's cold, pull them up.......if it's hot, wear them down. It's about the only way you have some adjustment.

Bricekolob: I sympathize with your weather plight; i was stationed at Hill AFB for over 4 years. What a beautiful place with great people! Since wearing your kilt is a given, but hose is in question, why not just pack both - a pair of short socks and full-height hose and change when you arrive at the venue?

There are lighter weight kilt hose out there. It gets warm here, and I have quite a few pairs from W.Brewin Sock Co. http://stores.channeladvisor.com/wbsocks/Kilt%20Hose/
They are thinner and cooler than standard wooly hose, and reasonably priced! The trade-off is that they might 'show through' a little when stretched over bigger calves, but they do breathe better in hot weather.

PS: I found "close to 70 degrees" as an example of warm temps pretty humorous! The Houston Highland games are in May, it could be 90 degrees with 80% humidity down here by then !

Temperatures and climate are similiar here to your part of the country. When out hiking I wear lighter weight wool hose(70% wool) from JHiggins. I've been wanting to get some of the wool hose from J.Townsend to try them out while hiking the Western Slope. Personally, I stay away from cotton on my feet when hiking, but am intrigued enough to try some of the J.Townsend hose just for giggles and grins.

I know this might be proper, but I found at a local sporting goods store (Academy) some colored soccer or baseball socks. They are knee high and a poly/ cotton blend, not thick and for the Texas heat they seem to be good. Since they are a sports sock it might work to your advantage to have the style and comfort you desire.

Actually, that was not the point (I have spent several years in a place where it gets about 100-110 with 100 percent humidity in April). The point was to describe how quickly it can change from cold weather to warm weather. Here in Utah, I have seen snow in May and heat in the 90’s. It could very well be cold in June when the highland games happen. However, I just wanted to be prepared.
