It's happened sooner than I expected... After a few successful outings in an Original Sport Kilt (which is a wee bit too short) I'm officially in the market for my 2nd kilt. I've decided on a tartan, I'm pretty sure I've selected my kilt maker/vendor. I'm still deciding between 5 yard wool vs. 8 yard wool, and still debating 2 vs. 3 straps.

The advice I need concerns kilt length. Heck, I already got one that's too short, right? I don't want to do that again. I've looked at many "how to measure" instructions, including those of the vendor of choice, so I can get a proper measurement and double/triple check it. What I can't get is a feel for how a traditional kilt will feel once I'm wearing it. I have read many posts on true waist, rise, straps, mid-knee, etc. Perhaps I simply missed it. Have any of you ever had an issue where the fit of a kilt on your body made you wish it had been ordered either longer or shorter... even when you were certain the measurements were absolutely correct?

Also, how much "tolerance" can one expect with the height at which a kilt is worn at, or near, the true waist (therefore allowing some adjustment in length)?

I really appreciate any input before I invest hundreds of dollars on a fancy garment.

Thanks you!
