What would I do? I wear the kilt as part of my every day attire. I see no reason not to wear it, nor do I see any reason to ask other people for permission. I was invited to the wedding of a friend of mine recently. He and his new bride are black. Not only was I the only one in a kilt, I was the only white guy there. And you know what? I was a huge hit, both with my friend's new bride and with their families. I never did understand the anguish over the issue of where to wear the kilt. You wouldn't ask permission to wear a red shirt, would you? What's the difference?
So here's a picture from my friend's wedding:

I was dressed in shirt, tie, and waistcoat for the wedding. Richard came over to me afterwards and told me that I looked like I was roasting, and told me to go change, so by the time this picture was taken, I wasn't even wearing shoes any more! So with that in mind, there is next to nothing that you can do to overshadow the events or to outshine the bride. I have been to numerous weddings where I've been the only one kilted, and it's been a complete non-event.
