It looks to me like one piece of fabric seamed down the back and along the bottom. From my understanding this is the same way Lamar Britt makes the ones he wears. He learned from Bob Martin I believe.

Well, that would work and be easy to make, but I wouldn't want to do any amount of walking or marching with that main seam running under the middle of my foot. Ouch...!

If you're careful with the seam, you can't even feel it. I promise.

Bob certainly knows whatof he speaks.

EDIT: And while they're easy to make after you've devised a pattern to fit your leg, the pattern is very tricky to get right.

Start with some cheap, tartanesque fabric from the fabric store. Work with the fabris on the bias, and pin the fabric around your leg and foot fairly tightly- you'll need to make sure that the ankle portion is not so small that it can't be stretched over your heel. Then sew it up and turn it right side out and see how it fits. Ajust that until you get a fairly tight fit everywhere, but you can still get your heel past the ankle. Once you're there, take out the seam of the well-fitting one and trace it onto some kind of pattern material. Then, use that pattern on some of your good material and you'll be set to go.
