    Whether or not it is necessary depends on your shape. I'm an inverted cone. They're necessary.

    When a kilt is made for you, the assumption seems to be that you may get bigger but you won't lose weight. I actually lost 25 lbs in a few weeks when I got sick this spring and my two favourite kilts would no longer even stay on me, no matter fit. Braces (suspenders) were an option.
    Luckily the company that made them (McCalls) were able to move the buckles.

    I agree with Fr Bill

    There's nothing wrong with wearing braces (suspenders) if you feel more comfortable. Simple clip ons will work fine
