The Dutch Friendship Tartan is a restricted tartan only available through their specific website, although in honesty anybody can wear it once you have purchased it. It only comes in the one colorset, which is a modern one but appears very earth toned until you get it up in good sunlight where the colors just jump off the tartan. It is woven only by Lochcarron but available in 10, 13, 16 and recently added 18 oz weights (I bought my 16oz right before they announced the availability in 18 oz--drats).

Sorry for the tangential threadjack. We now return to your regularly scheduled programming.

I do love earth tones! And that is a great sweater. Where did you find it? I like the detail on the pockets. I have a few cable knit sweaters and some old military type sweaters that are similar, but this one is especially nice looking. Great find.

    In a word, yes!

My kilt has some very warm earthy tones, which match my general style anyway.

There's some fine lookin lads around this thread, pretty sharp!

Jeff, where'd you get those fantastic red hose you have with your Maple Leaf kilt?

Re: Do You Like Earth Tones?

As I said with regard to Dale's very nice new kilt in maple red tartan, I very much use earth tones as the preferred basis for the clothes I wear. It was not always thus, but something I became more conscious of around the ages of 35-40. In terms of kilts, My Hunting Ross Ancient has two tones of green, with black and dark red which I generally wear while my Red Ross is a bit more bright. My preferred kilt jacket and accessories are day wear (with both) including my Tweed Argyle which is lovat green with brown flecks. I generally prefer various shades of green or oatmeal hose, brown belt, brown sporran, and black or brown shoes. I also have a dark green PC and a dress sporran for formal evening wear. In terms of non kilt wear, I have lots of browns, greens, russets for smart casual wear (tweed and corduroy Sports Jackets, corduroy and tweed trousers, sweaters etc.)

Re: Do You Like Earth Tones?

Earth tones look very smart with Highland day attire, and I especially love the contrast of a kilt (and Argyll style hose) in weathered tartan with the black fabric of a doublet in barathea or velvet for evening attire. LL Bean has a superb selection of sweaters in a variety of colours, to include earth tones, that would look absolutely stunning with the kilt!

    Cheers,

I have worn cardigans my whole life, and taken a lot of grief for it along the way as people seem to associate them with old men. All I can say is cardigans rock and cardigans with kilts even better.

I used to drool over way2fractious's weathered McLaren and so-so wanted a MacNaughton kilt in that sort of color scheme. However, nothing of the sort exists. That's what got me looking at the Capercaillie modern tartan.

    Cousin

Those hose are one of the variants on the fancy top hose that House of Cheviot produces and which are available at a variety of places---STM, Dunadd, Scotweb, etc... Not everybody carries all the varieties so you might want to look around at the various options. I got mine from Scotweb a few years ago but I believe they still carry it in their stock. The day that photo was taken I grabbed my Maple Leaf kilt and when I opened up my hose drawer that pair was on top and just magically matched perfectly IMHO.
