My advice is to go to a thrift shop or second-hand store and buy two tweed jackets for much less than the price of one new one. Have one of them cut down to wear with the klilt, and wear the other one with your britches.

But, to answer your question, no, i don;t know of a jacket than can pull double duty. A short jacket just doesn't look right with britches, and a long jacket doesn't work with the kilt.

Good advice. Although I did just that.
Found 2 Harris tweed jackets for around $25.00 each.
I now find I can't bear to cut them up.

My brother gained about 30 lbs and gave me an old grey wool suite of his.
Now I have something to alter for kilt wearing.

Yeah, I'm thinking if I ever do alter a jacket I'll start with one I don't care about.

A tailor could do the alteration for you if you describe what you want them to do. For example say you want the bottom of the jacket to finish at the top of your butt and in the front, have a curve from about 2 inches from the top button down to the new hemline of the coat.
