Claddagh kilt accessories
I wear a Claddagh ring as my wedding ring, a lovely Irish-made oldfashioned traditional Claddagh ring with the proportions "just right" to my eye.
I like the IDEA of Claddagh kilt accessories (belt buckles, kilt pins, sporran cantles, etc) but most of them look ugly to me. For one thing, the Claddagh design is a RING which looks sort of odd when flattened out to be used as a motif on a flat surface.
But here we go!! I came across these belt buckles which are not too bad. All three have preserved the classic proportional balance between the hands, heart, and crown (which is all to easy to get wrong). Well #2 has a crown that's too big.

I strongly dislike the Glen Esk Claddagh buckle which has the heart very large and bulbous, surrounded by oddly attenuated hands.
I would very much appreciate any photos of Claddagh sporrans, belts, kilt pins, etc. Thanks! Richard

Re: Claddagh kilt accessories
Richard: Thanks for this, my wife's and my wedding band are embossed with the claddagh and the inscription "mo anam cara" (Irish for my soul mate) from Faller's in Galway, which is where my family is from. http://www.fallers.com/products/gael...ding-ring.html but ours are not the gold color, at the time we ordered them they were a special order item. I like that number 1 belt buckle can you tell me where you located it please? Thanks

Re: Claddagh kilt accessories
Though I have a claddagh tattoo, I lean more towards the harp for Irish themed stuff. But I did get this kilt pin recently;
Order of the Dandelion, The Houston Area Kilt Society, Bald Rabble in Kilts, Kilted Texas Rabble Rousers, The Flatcap Confederation, Kilted Playtron Group.

Re: Claddagh kilt accessories
I have a couple different claddagh rings but nothing with that motif for kilt stuff. There are a few options for sporrans out there:

- Justitia et fortitudo invincibilia sunt
- An t'arm breac dearg

Re: Claddagh kilt accessories
Thanks for the photos!
About the photos I posted, they were just found Googling.
I like that Glen Esk Claddagh kilt pin. Odd how that goes: I like the Glen Esk Claddagh kilt pin but not their Claddagh buckle. On the other hand I really like the Glen Esk stag buckle but am lukewarm on the sporran cantle and kilt pin that go with it.
Those sporrans are interesting, though I wish they wouldn't have stuck a shamrock in the middle of the Claddagh motif. And a Claddagh cantle would be interesting to see.

Yes I did come across that while Googling "Claddagh buckle".
I don't care for that design and it took me a minute to realise why: the knotwork border, and the group of Irish motifs inside, are of two very different scales/sizes/thicknesses.
Our "eye" expects a certain degree of internal consistency in a work of art. It would strike us as odd to see, in an impressionist Monet painting of a group of people, one of the people rendered in a photorealistic style.
I do however very much like his lion buckle... a true work of art! It has a wonderful vintage look to it.
