The thing I like most about this is it will make kilts a little more "cool" for our kilted brothers. Compaqguy for one was/is getting a lot of guff in his neighborhood while wearing his kilts in the south of the UK.

He like myself and the 90%, joined XMarks to learn to do it right. There is very little of the useless generic bashing here. Comments are almost always specific and helpful in make suggestions to improve and correct the look. The rabble has experiance and nothing to sell and that adds a lot to credibility. Our paid sponsers are also very good at not shill-ing, but providing their expertise.

Pants is only a present tense verb here. I once panted, but it's all cool now.

Perhaps you are objecting to the Ruche tie Jock? Or would you still be of the same opinion with a bow tie?

    Or perhaps it's the plaid?

Compared with many of the outfits sported by his late brother, Jermaine looks pretty cool to me.

It is the cringe factor Trefor that I object to and that is/was the same with some of Sir Harry Lauder's attire, the same with Bob Hope's and Bing Crosby's Scottish attire, the same with Laural and Hardy's Scottish attire, the same with several well known Scots singers TV attire and so on. It is the showbiz aspect of Scots attire that many of the unknowing take away as "how it is done" that irritates so and is so difficult to explain to others that, no that is not, "how it is done".

The strong ego that get's an entertainer on stage also impacts the tendency to "personalize" the, to them, costume. Even if they know what is right and proper.

I regret that I do not cringe as easily as Jock but compared with many of the OTT outfits sported by celebrities in concerts in general, Jemaine's is pretty accurate for the common experience of many of us when it comes to kilt and accessories.

As for the "how it is done" factor this is often taken with a pinch of salt by those observing it. We will either do the same ourselves from personal preference or we will not. I like plaids in certain circumstances, for example, others would not wear one under any circumstances whatsoever.

All part of the variety that makes this forum so enjoyable.

I say this with the greatest of respect Trefor, but it is not your National Dress being caricatured, so why should you cringe?

With all due respect also Jock, that question right there makes me cringe more than Jermaine Jackson's attempt at Scottish dress.

Oh I don't want to open any can of worms that has been opened too often here before, but I do think that sometimes things do need pointing out.

To avoid any futher tins of worms being opened I will not , however tempted I may be, take any further part in this thread.
