Just seconds after I sent the last post, the power went off, we are back on again now. The wind is a problem , but snow is still absent apart from the high-tops.

Shaftesbury?
Ah yes, I have trekked that way - reaching there after crossing the wilderness beyond Blandford Forum, then on towards the lions at Longleat.
It isn't really the temperature but the wind - snow is usually not too bad - it sometimes has to warm up to snow, but when the wind is driving the snow horizontally so hard that it seems to want to go through rather than round, that is when it gets miserable. We have no snow, but the rain possibly hits harder. The wind is just plain nasty.
Now last year, it was day after day of warm dry weather in March, and the jet stream was far to the North. At the moment the jet stream is about level with the Bay of Biscay and heading towards the Mediterranean.

I can say it - but the phenomenon is more, I believe, climate instability, that Quantum weather Butterfly must be flapping frantically.

Just a bit of snow yesterday, today it's really hot +2C, almost tee shirt/shorts weather. Windows down in the car, just leather vest and tee shirt.

Gonna be in the south mid-April. Promise me I won't see snow? I'm tired of shovelling.

South as in US? No promises. It was spitting snow here all day today. Very little in the way of accumulation, butchya never know....
Re the snow in the British Isles: I hope it doesn't linger. Old folks saying here is, if the snow sticks around, it's waiting for more to fall.

Was up your way yesterday Jock. Pleanty snow on the tops. Here en-route to Gulvane.

I used to stalk deer on the slopes of Gulvane(Gulvain) and have not been to the top for many years. Did you pass the Earl of Dalkeith's cairn? Its a rough old track from Fassfern to get to the foot of Gulvane from what I can remember. Or, did you attack from Strathan? Memories, memories! You had great weather yesterday for a wee stroll in the Highlands and must have been able to see for miles. Out of interest, did you know that in1745 the Camerons took the route from Achnacarry through Glen Mallie to Glenfinnan to meet up with Bonnie Prince Charlie?
