Don, sorry, but of course you're right. MAJ is the French equivalent of Shift. My apologies.

Perhaps you could now explain the multi quotes?

I used to have this possibility. There used to be an icon on the bottom right of all posts in the shape of quote marks with a + sign, but this is no more?

You can also simply type it like this:

    [ URL="http://www.google.com.au/" ]Google[ /URL ]

Without the spaces, though. It may seem more complex, but it's honestly less steps and easier once you get the hang of it.

And FYI, if you want to show somebody exactly what they need to type, but prevent the forum form interpreting the tags, just place the noparse tags around it, like this

    [noparse]
    [URL="http://www.google.com.au/"]Google[ /URL]
    [/noparse]

Thanks! I was trying to figure that out. In other forums, I've been able to use [code] but it wasn't working here.

No worries, it was fairly obvious from the context and the fact that your
header says that you are from France.

Ahh, I suppose that this is another case of the "geek factor".

The first time that I replied with quotes, I noticed the tags
before and after the quoted material. I also act as the webmaster
for the Victorian Folk Music Club.
And, unlike some, I actually hand-code my HTML pages. So, I
rather rapidly recognised the tags around the quote as being
a markup language and the syntax. So I simply tried modifying
it and looking at the preview. It worked, what can I say.

So, in the case of this message, all of your text was enclosed in the
    tags:

    [QUOTE=BCAC;1184829]

    and

    [/QUOTE]

So I copied and pasted the QUOTE tag above the second paragraph of
your comments and added a /QUOTE tag at the end of the first
paragraph and above my comments. I have to confess to being very
"old school" about replying. I'll show my age by admitting that I was
using the original Usenet newsgroups in the very early 1990s. The
technique of in-line replies was a part of that culture.

And, as for the copy and paste stuff, it's a lot easier on a Linux
system with a three button mouse. (Hold down left button dragging
over text to highlight, then move mouse to paste location, then press
middle button and the text pastes. This has been standard *nix
    behaviour for a long time.

Thanks KiltedCodeWarrior for the noparse tags -- BTW are the
tags case -insensitive? All the ones I've seen have been upper-case.

And thanks to Llama for the URL tag -- I'd really rather type
    stuff most of the time.

If the initial post becomes sticky, I'll modify it to include the URL tags.

No, they are not case sensitive as far as I know.
