When my kilt came in I checked with HR to make sure they felt it was within the dress code - after explaining that no, it was not common to 'go regimental', they approved. Next was to check with the Boss - again the 'regimental' question, but he was cool with it.

I find that an exceedingly odd question, coming from either HR or the boss, as it would probably get YOU in trouble if you were to ask a female employee what she wears under her skirt or dress.
