I have to agree that goggles were for protection from wind-blown objects. Ballooning over smut-ash filled city skies full of coal generated smoke comes to mind.

I've seen some steampunk specific kilts but the are expensive and not really for me.

There are Steampunk accessories for your home, as well.
For the curious, there is the Steampunk Worlds Fair.

The Steampunk workshop will do all sorts of Steampunkification (that's the only way I can describe his work.) http://steampunkworkshop.com/

Here are a couple samples of his work:

Monkey@arms, Walkerk, and I attended a steampunk themed Handcar Regatta several years ago. We decided that less was more and wore our Black Watch tartan kilts with safari wear. I added a "Panache Pocket Gun" (PPG) and since I think that goggles without purpose are silly, I came up with an appropriate eyepatch (G for gear of course!)

Very good. I don't have goggles either. I do have a pith helmet though.

I wasn't aware of the SP influence in many things until I one of my coworkers pointed it out to me. For gamers out there "Borderlands" was a big hit a few years ago and subsequent releases still sell well- It has a SP feel to it. The movie League of Extraordinary Gentlemen was Jules Verne-ish as was the technology in Wild Wild West.

My wife and friend of ours who does historic costuming sold my wife's Steampunk-inspired jewelry at a Steampunk Unlimited Exposition at the Strasburg Railroad here in Pennsylvania a few weeks ago. Lots of very nice people in some very interesting outfits. I have to admit that both my wife and our firend looked very good! My wife is in the black jacket.DSCN0210.jpg

Great photo. Getting a bit fed up of being the only one of everything. The only kilt wearer, the only one interested in steampunk and the only Druid! Are you into it as well, or just your wife?
