Back in 1986 or 1987, I had traveled to a town for a wedding of a good friend, His bride was Scottish so we were all kilted for the affair. On the way home I pulled into this gas station for fuel, it was a really small town, maybe 200 people lived there. I had just finished filling up and paid for the gas, a man followed me out side and told me that I was under arrest, I first laughed at him because I thought this was a joke, turns out he was the town Marshall and he said I had alot of nerve to wear women's clothing out like that, I tried to explain that I was wearing a Scottish Kilt and was not a woman s attire. He said he had never heered of such a thing and no that is not misspelled, the way alot of hill folk talked. So he placed me under arrest and I went down to the local sheriff office to be booked and charged with indecency in public, they didn't have a jail, so I was let go and was back there in a week for my trial. I went back in the same kilt, thinking that I would show the judge what i was wearing and explain to him, I also took some pictures with me of men kilted. When the judge came into the room and saw me, he said out loud where all could here, "hey nice kilt". I explained why I was there, he immediately called the marshall to the desk and admonished him good. For his ignorance the judge told the sheriff that he would work the next 2 weeks without pay. Made the man apologize to me, and he apologize to me and said I was free to go. It took me along time to live that one down, my friends or so called friends had fun with that for many months after.
