And the answer is..
For anyone following this with interest, a retired QOH has confirmed it is a Cameron Highlanders ORs No.1 dress sporran. Mystery solved!

I know?!
That’s what I was told and it did come with an ORs kilt. I’ve enquired elsewhere just in case my source is contradicted. He is ex-QOH, not Cameron Highlanders but that’s what he reckoned.

The problem is the cantle of Your sporran is Seaforth pattern and never could be worn by Camerons...

Indeed
My thoughts exactly. The closest I’ve seen is the sporran of an Officer in the QOH. As previously posted, Seaforth pattern with new post amalgamation badge. My sporran has never been tinkered with, the Cameron badge is original to the cantle. As I understood it, after amalgamation, the regiment wore MacKenzie tartan for all but very senior ranks. My kilt is Cameron which wouldn’t have been worn by QOH ORs.

The pipes and drums of the QOHldrs (QOH denotes the Queens Own Hussars btw) are the only members of the regiment who wore the Cameron tartan kilt as did the Highlanders and now 4SCOTS. All ranks of the QOHldrs wore Cameron trews though. Your kilt could just be from the P&D’s. Through all the posts, I can’t figure out which sporran is the one you are trying to id.

Thank you
Thank you. Didn’t realise I had been referring to the Queen’s Own Hussars It did occur to me that the kilt might have been P&Ds but they were found together and the sporran doesn’t appear to be P&Ds so this added to my confusion...

Museum
Hi,
For anyone following this thread, here’s a small update. I’ve contacted the museum at Ft. George and hope to hear from them soon. Drum Major’s sporran has been suggested a few times so I’m interested to find out if it is indeed. I had thought the sporran seemed too new and therefore not good enough quality for an officer’s sporran but having seen a couple for sale, one only this week, I’m starting to think otherwise. Combined with the belief that the sporran has only ever had one cantle and that this cantle has never been altered, it leaves me completely flummoxed. Awaiting word from the museum with great anticipation !!!

Pattern confusion
Even more confusingly, the pattern is actually closer to that of the Gordon Highlanders than the Seaforths. The engraving is almost identical to the former.

So I could imagine that owner of this sporran made this "frankenstein sporran" to remember his service in Queen Own Cameron or Queen Own Highlanders (Seaforth and Camerons)...
It's definitely not issued sporran.
