In my lack of having yet developped "an eye" for tartans, what I saw as a difference was, besides the hues difference (indeed!), that the detail picture in The Art of Kiltmaking was centered on the black lines crossing on top of the green field, while, when I cropped to sett the enlargement in the Tartan Registry , I had chosen to favor the red crossing on the blue.
(which I indeed find curious, referring to my own sense and perceptions here, how I "liked" more one over the other, when they are substantially identical...)

Once I did a proper comparative crop on the images available in the Registry, (I needed to. I was sort of still doubting ) looking side-by-side black-on-green centred setts, I was plenty satisfied.
