I really don't want to sound snarky, but I think you really might need to re-examine your priorities.

My bookmarked sites:
http://users.telenet.be/jbruyndonckx/kilt_making.html
http://www.scottishdance.net/highland/MakingKilt.html
http://users.tinyonline.co.uk/chegc/kiltsite/kilt.htm
Also, note the pics on:
http://kilts.albanach.org/
All the kilt makers on this forum.
Note esp, the edges of the apron and the angles of the front side pleats.
DO NOT skip on the underapron pleat, it WILL be missed if you don't do it.
I STILL push Barb's book, if can fork over the $30 to one who sells it. It is MUCH better than any of the linked sites above in both detail, helpfulness, and completeness.

Hi Kilt man with Sword,
I can completely understand how frustrating things can get. I made my first kilt of corduroy a bit ago and got compliments on it (real or trying to make me feel good, I don't know. In any case, I made the kilt, after reading all kinds of instructions and getting ideas, from this web site exclusively: http://www.scottishdance.net/highland/MakingKilt.html
I pondered, schemed, woke up in the night trying to figure how to do this and that for at least 30 or 40 hours, THEN I went at it with the material, a package of bent safety pins and in 8 hours had the kilt. Go for it man, any thing you make will make you better then second time you try it. You will learn so much more do than pondering like I did.

Good on ya for even trying. Making a kilt the first time is no easy thing.
I agree that you will learn more by trying than by pondering. Give it a go. Don't be discouraged if you have to rip out stitching. It goes with the territory.
It don't mean a thing, if you aint got that swing!!
