Henderson (weathered,) 4 yard, boxpleat by Matt Newsome: A review

Gentlemen, let me start this off by offering an unexpressable "thank you" to Mr. Newsome. I could truly never muster the words to explain what this kilt means to me (and I'm a man who always loves to ramble.) So, with that being said, "thank you Matt; thank you."

As most of you already know, I placed my order with Matt last fall. And, I have not been able to think about much else every since. Well, I've at least managed to slip in thoughts about it in even the most obscure threads. A one track mind? Perhaps. I suppose I should thank you rabble for being patient and humoring me during my times of redundance. "Yes Bradley, we know... You're CAN'T wait for the Henderson weathered, box pleat -- blah blah blah!"

I chose this tartan first and foremost because it is my clan tartan. I chose the weathered shade because I love the earth tones, I already own a kilt in the ancient shade, and there are not nearly enough kilts fashioned from this fabric being worn. I have also, completely fallen in love with the "weathered" idea for tartan. MacDonald weathered anyone? Haha. Not quite yet, but it's in the back of my mind already.

Matt created my kilt from Lochcarron 16 oz. strome on February 7th (according to the enclosed kilt passport.) This is also my first kilt made from a heavyweight wool. My other Henderson tartan kilt is from 11 oz. wool. I adore it. Plain and simple. I finally understand everyone's fascination with this type of cloth. I have a few swatches of 16 oz. tartan. But, you really don't get to truly appreciate it until it's wrapped around you.

It fits like a glove. It's a great pleasure to wear. I put it on with the grey polo I wore to work, and added the grey kilt socks (from Hamilton dry goods) as they're a pretty good match. I wore it to the store to pick up hair dye for Nikki. I really felt like a million bucks.

And of course, the obligatory "pleat shot." I know you lot would not rest without this. But, of course that's the big difference in this kilt anyway. Aye? It's made from two yards of double width fabric. I found the "join" and am thrilled with how well hidden it is. Though I understood the concept, I couldn't picture it. Quality through and through.

I'll be giving this kilt lots of miles. And, you're all bound to be bombarded with picture after picture.

A very fine looking tartan! You look great.

Matt's work speaks for itself. The "it fit's like a glove" is a terribly cliche' description but how else can you describe a Matt Newsome kilt.

Enjoy it and take your lady out dancing in it. Wait till you see the swing action of 16 oz. wool...

Very handsome kilt! I like the brown leathers with the earth tones really looks good! The grey really sets it off. Congrats!!

"Terribly cliche' " indeed! It was even difficult to type. But, as you said. How else can you describe it? No dancing. I would probably break her feet. Never ever.

That is a great looking kilt! Hmmm, my grandmother lives in Hendersonville, that should be close enough association to get that tartan. Enjoy the kilt.
