I'm a first time poster although I've been lurking for some months (my account shows three posts, but those were made by my brother, Turpin, when he logged on at our mother's computer). I like all the suggestions except "by choice not blood."

I also think serious consideration should be given to having the motto in English. Historically, the reason for having a motto in Latin was that Latin was universally understood. That's why the Roman Catholic church had mass in Latin up until about 1970. Latin was the language of treaties and diplomacy until about the 17th century when French became the "lingua franca" of the world. English is now the "lingua franca" whereas something written in Latin tends to obscure the meaning.

I am not yet kilted, but Turpin is slowly wearing me down. I believe there is a kilt (or possibly several) in my future.
