    My favourite tartan myth is Tartan Ogham. If I remember it correctly, some exalted person in the clan carried around a stick (probably a cromach or shillelagh! ) with threads wrapped around so as to remember the clan tartan thread count!

    I once read somewhere that the red line in a certain clan tartan represented the blood of their enemies !

    I hear that if it's not Scottish it's crap.

    Which reminds me, I have been told that I cannot wear a kilt, not because I am not Scottish (which I am a bit) but rather because I am in America, and that it was never meant to be worn here. I replied that while the kilt was not invented here, neither were the pants she was wearing. And of course, while my kilt was made here in the states, odds are her entire wardrobe was made by a bunch of kids in Asia.
