Well, that price at "one of our sponsors" is about as low as it gets for an eight yard kilt. If you look at some of the responses on the thread that you started about Kilt Culture, you'll see that several of the respondents (including me) mention that they were initially put off by the cost factor of kilts...until they got some counseling from the forum about some of the lower priced options that were available.

IOS is currently available only in wool and costs like most of the wool tartans do. I was chatting with one of the ladies at a Hancock's Fabric a while back and she got all sneery about how "...they got you guys over a barrel with that tartan stuff...ain't no fabric worth that much money..." to which I could only reply that in my experience it's very nice stuff and that it's very specialized and worth the money. I've pretty much come to the point where I'm only interested in wool or pv kilts from now on but that's me...YMMV as they say on the internet.

There have been some rumblings about IOS being produced in pv...if that comes to pass, it'll probably be less expensive than the wool. Check out a copy of Barb's Book (a.k.a. THE Book) and you'll see how much work goes into a well made kilt...it seems like very simple work but has to be done to a reasonably precise standard. Hence, the cost...
