Ask them when they are still living which of your current kilts they like. (They don't have to know why) And then wear that one in their honor.

Mark, unless I just happen to know off-hand that someone really likes a certain kilt I own I just wear what I think is appropriate. The idea of having a list of friend's and family's preference in kilt in case they pass seems a little gruesome.
