Question Thinking about exact meaning of "remnants" word

About two weeks ago i finally recieved "Art of kiltmaking" from famous Barb T. Perfect book and very fast delievery(if keep in mind geography), many thanks to author.
So now i think about some fabric for experiments and lurking around for. Find some but just wonder if i understand correctly meaning of word "Remnants". For example, means "10 meters of remnants" just one bolt of 10 meters or not?
Sorry for so dumb question. And anyway thanks for help.

Fabric remnants are usually the last remaining lengths of fabric on the bolt, usually sold at a discount because they are often not long enough for most common sewing projects. 10 meters would not be a remnant.

What Barb means is that you could find some shorter length of inexpensive, throw-away fabric to practice your techniques before you take the chance and ruin the real thing.

    Good luck,
    Rex.

I understand. Was said about F&K from http://www.wooltartan.com/tartans5.htm where i see remnants as large as 50m. That's why i have thoughts on meanings. And that's not first kilt i've ever made, so 10$ fabric is ok. But if for first - 4$ fabric definitely acceptable too.
Main problem on fabrics for me - it's hard to find good inexpensive tartan fabric here in siberia.

I guess it is all relative - one company's remnant is another man's abundance. Show us the kilt when it is done, ok?

    T-rabbit,

I recently made a purchase from F&K for only a portion of the remaining 12metres of a remnant. So for their posted price, they are trimming 4metres off of the 12metre remnant. From advice I have gathered, this is the first and best way to produce a DIY tank.

    Stay warm!

It will be easiest if you can get a piece of wool, whatever kind you can find, tartan or not. Cotton, canvas, and such don't shape very well and are harder for a beginner to use when following the instructions in the book.

For now i've made one kilt from PV fabric and one x-kilt from denim, so polywool fabric from F&K will be ok, i think.
Or PW and PV fabrics is so different?

    T-Rabbit,

My remnant from F&K arrived today. I'll post pics of it once I can manage some time a good place to photograph. Since they have remnant specials about once a month, it may be good for others on the forum to know what to expect. I can hardly wait to open it!

    Cheers!
