I think sporrans have their place at fancy dress up things, but I prefer to not wear one when I am being casual. I had a post earlier showing off the german military sweater that I like to wear with my kilt on account of the large breast pocket, which makes all sporrans functionally unnecessary.
In my own opinion, sporrans are about more than just function. They help define the fact that what you are wearing is a kilt, and not a skirt. This of course only maters with the tradishional kilt.

I was a little dubious about sporrans until I got my hands on a gray/silver seal skin from Scotland, and then I discovered Thorfinn on this site.
Turpin is great to work with! He'll work with you on a unique sporran; he has many exterior and interior features to choose from. I'll post pics when it arrives.

Here's the sporran Turpin made for me, with its optional Red Fox flap:

Scotchcorner sells one, not sure if they're the shop you're thinking of.
Myself I can not bring myself to wear a traditional kilt without a sporran. I just picked up a Black Watch Heritage Polyviscous kilt from Brad at the Kilted Nation and have not worn it out yet because my sporran chain is too short for me now.
The only traditional kilt I don't wear a sporran with is my great kilt, but if tied over your shoulder there are two nice pouches formed within the plaid that I carry my stuff.
I never minded my UK not having a sporran because as was mentioned it has the snaps that break up the front apron.
I'm hoping to get one of the aforementioned Rkilts Taz devil sporrans, those things are awesome looking. I'm also playing around with the buildasporran.com applet. That is probably going to be my next sporran.
I have a seal skin with fur sporran from Scotchcorner that I really like the look of, but it is very thin and doesn't hold much and still close. I also have a deer hide pouch I got at the VA Ren Faire two years before my first kilt that I've started using as a sporran, sometimes I add that to my great kilt.

I'm a bit late here (as usual, haha) but I just wanted to point out that I do wear a traditional kilt. It's the only one I have. I just happen to enjoy wearing it casually. Indeed I feel that because it's a traditional kilt, it's not likely to get mistaken for a skirt. I've worn it many times without the sporran and never had an odd glance Iwouldn't have received with the sporran.
This isn't to put down sporrans or those that wear them. There are times when they are assuredly appropriate. But if I strap on the kilt with a sweater and boots, I don't feel like bothering with one. Feel free to call me lazy...

dowofbuchanan to find prices and buy a Freelander Sporran, the best thing would be to go to

Once there contact David by sending him an email telling him what it is you want.
Chase you might want to turn away...
