This is exactly how the
F-H.C.A.G made her X-Marks "cheerleaders skirt" except that she put the tartan on the outside and the solid color on the inside.
It kind of makes me think of that old takeoff on "The Last of the Mohicans"
Brave came he with hands that never tremble,
tartan in hand and denim to assemble.
The denim on the outside and the tartan on the inside
to make himself an X-kilt for there is no real downside
to tartan on the inside and denim on the outside
for to make it all reversible and wearable on his outside
he makes the kilt on from two sides, always look upon the brightside
for the outside will be inside when he wears it inside, outside
and the inside will be outside when he wears it upside, downside.
etc. etc.....
I think I need coffee.

Ok, so I have lay it down upside out with the tartan side on the upside of the downsided denim?
Man, this is just getting more and more complicated.

And this shall be for music, when no one else is near; The fine song for singing, the rare song to hear; That only I remember, that only you admire; Of the broad road that stretches and the roadside fire. (RL Stevenson)

Moving Right Along
Here are a few photos from last nights progress. The first it of the tartan sections cut out and laid out in the "inside pleat" marks on the denim.

Next I hemmed the entire length of kilt including the tartan stripes. After hemming, I sewed down the pleats with the tartan inside. I ended up pulling the fabric onto the machine, then pulling out the pins and putting them in on the other side making sure the two edges were lined up.

After I sewed down the pleats, I put some pins in the thing to see how it will shape up.

Hopefully I'll have some time this weekend to keep working on it!
